Or at least an otherkin.

(bet they’re white)

Welp…

I actually do ID as otherkin, and I’m not white, but the reason I don’t really talk about it is because pretty much all of the loudly public ones are saltine assed white people of the sort I want to slap a whole lot.

I just can’t wrap my head around it. How in the world does someone identify themselves in a way that is just completely unreasonable

I think part of the problem is that so many of these loud jackasses go on and on like it’s a literal thing when it really isn’t. For me it’s much more about spiritual beliefs than anything, but people define it and talk about it differently; the problem is that the former group is all you ever hear from in public because the rest of us want nothing to do with the “I’m a dragonwolfdolphinfaerie OMG CAN YOU SEE MY WINGZ” crowd.

(And as an aside, whether it’s legit or not is a wholly separate issue from the appropriation of legit suffering/SJ/trans* rhetoric (which always has been and always will be totally fucking inappropriate, foolish, and crackerish).

I also pretty much have no fucks to give if people want to make fun of it, because it really does sound patently ridiculous on the face of it, and I make fun of it my damn self a lot of the time. I honestly don’t care if people don’t understand, or whatever, it’s cool. There’s a lot of shit in the world I don’t understand about other people. But at the end of the day it’s really not that important to me because I have a ton of shit I am actually, actively marginalized for (being female, black, queer, etc), which is the other reason I don’t really talk about it. White otherkin love to go on about how oppressed they are because they’ve never experienced real oppression and love to romanticize it. NYPD never harassed me because I said I ID’d as something other than completely human on the internet. They have harassed me plenty of times for breathing while black.

All of this “trans” bullshit really comes down to, IMO, white people who erroneously believe that not receiving validation/or being ridiculed is the same thing as oppression. For actual oppressed people, that is only one part of the puzzle. But white privilege allows them to be ignorant of the other facets of oppression. They confuse the symptoms for the disease, and get mad when you call them out on it because they have no idea what the disease is actually like.
